About

Sono un’artista italiana. Vivo e lavoro a Milano.

I am an Italian-born artist living and working primarily in Milan.

After studying painting at The Academy of Fine Arts Brera, in Milan, I divided my time between teaching and creating. My favorite topics are poetry, dreams and the beauty in people and nature but in the last few years I have developed a focus on respect for human rights.

Working with people who are blind or visually impaired I created  sensory Art and Projects. This experience allowed me to create an art characterized by the interaction between different artistic languages and with an active participation of the public.

I have done researches in architecture, colors, interior architecture and design in terms of their direct impact on people’s everyday lives.

My photographic work has been singled out by international juries and I have received International awards and critical recognition.

I have exhibited my work in New York as well as in Paris, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Turin, Venice, Milan, Rome, Palermo.

I spent my time in London, Berlin and San Francisco for the latest visual researches.

At present I am part of the jury of Cross Award, International Performance Award.

Dalla pittura d’azione alla fotografia esperienziale

“C’è una crepa in ogni cosa. Ma è da lì che entra la luce”
Leonard Cohen

Emotion in beauty: tidbits of reality

“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in” Leonard Cohen

Not always does Monica Gorini confront herself with painting moving from a project, she often lingers on until her instinct turns into a spontaneous gestural impetus. Then she takes possession of the canvas  with  determined touches, powerful brush strokes, metaphysical flashes intensified by the body language.

She squeezes paint straight from the tubes, she lets it drop, she sprays it with rhythmical movements from which furrows, craters, labyrinths, winding trails, tangles and bundles stream out. Action loses itself to a tactile dimension, to a secret vocabulary expressing alchemical forces and irrational outbursts.

Monica has grown up in close contact with nature, she loves the sea, the woods, the steady dripping of thawing, the silence. She claims that “the echo of what is not there empowers what is there”. She’s happy when she can use spring water, with the canvas lying on the ground and the rustling leaves sounding around her. All that is beautiful moves her. It does not influence her, though.

She landed on to photography by mere chance, in the course of time, with the impatience of catching then and there those tidbits of reality, fragments on which the eye lingers: waves, skyes, shadows, clouds, as well as flowers, bodies, eyes, streets dying elsewhere, windows from the outside, windows from the inside. Sometimes the digital processing ends in contaminating the prime idea, not in order to enhance the aesthetical value of the image, but with the aim of making the communication more trenchant. The impersonal sound of the shutter is simply a shortcut to a talk, to save a message, to encourage a thought. The act of taking a picture itself, so finical, accurate, precise, is the counterbalance of the unrestrained gestures which drive her painting.
